Questions about input JFETs in F5T

Nobody ever really answered what IDSS is preferred. Is this because there is no real answer? I have some linear system lsk170 and lsj74 in the ranges 15-17.9 mA when I measure them with a 10R resistor and 9V battery. Is this way off? In Nelsons article he mentions not just BL grades. GR grades will also be fine. I wonder then why everyone is keen on BL grades.

The trick (if there is one) is to get the requisite currents and so the voltages through the resistors that then set the voltages for the next stage... Also this plays to the feedback network as well. As is the case here, most amps are actually a balancing act where there are subtleties in each stage, so getting one stage to have the proper or best range of operation is related to the one after and the one before as is the gain and operating voltages.

I'm not looking at the F5 schematic or discussion on First Watt at the moment, but I seem to think 15-17.9ma is a bit high as far as the target range. It may or may not require some scaling/adjustment of the resistor values associated with the input circuit.
