have a quick question but what exactly happens when you go vented with a sub in a box larger than it's vas and with a higher like .48 or greater qts?

some subs, like the dayton hf10 and jl audio 10w3v3 model great on paper in boxes larger than their vas and both also have a higher qts

remember it's a bad idea, but i can't remember why

Hi,

Generally you can do better for a given box volume
with a driver that has higher Vas than the box and
a lower Qts, than the high Qts your trying to use.

In all respects :
Qts = ~ 0.5 or > = sealed.
Qts = ~ 0.4 sealed or vented.
Qts = ~ 0.3 or < = vented.

In all cases Vbox should be ~ = or < Vas.
Except for small drivers with tiny Vas.

For drivers that seem to work well in boxes
vented bigger than Vas, they seldom do,
because air suspension is typically far
more linear than driver suspension,
and they simply work better sealed.
