I want to use the mic input as a guitar input. what optionss do I have. It is not worth much as a guitar input the way it is.
Use it, no issue, and hear how it sounds ! 😉

i did and it is not worth using.I am refreshing the amp and can change it so that is why I am looking for advice.

Since it is a Vintage Guitar amp, I preferably wouldn't modify the mic input circuit, and just refresh it to make it work fine as expected, like I did on my Danelectro DM10 below - which moreover needed a 120VAC 60Hz to 230VAC 50Hz conversion :

But it's my advice, and it is your amp, so you decide what's best, OK ? 😉

There is a lot of this model amp out there and All I did was change out caps and a few out of spec resistors. every thing with same spec compounets. When I look at yout rebuild you changed power trany, output trany and the speaker. I am noyt sure but I think you added a choke also. I would not call that leaving it the same. I have no problem with what you did but it is not the same amp you stated with.🙂

This little Danelectro DM10 was by the way a complete derelict, in less-than-a "project condition" and those transformations were necessary to make it presentable, and work as expected, even better (hum quietness).
I mean : if your Silvertone amp is in a more preserved, genuine condition than my Danelectro DM10 was, well I would leave it as original as possible.
But it's me, OK ? If you want to mod your amp, you decide for yourself...
Good luck !

Do you read your own posts? Did you read my posts? i sugest you reread them. I am trying to keep the amp as close to origianal. The only thing I am looking to do is make the Mic channel usable as a guitar input. do you have any advice or just more useless comments. Not trying to be snotty, just looking for useful advice.
Based on the schematic you posted, all the inputs are identical. There is nothing to change. The only thing I am looking to do is make the Mic channel usable as a guitar input.
jeff
Just a 68K resitor is needed to make it identical to the instrument input, small mod, just a resistor between mic inputjack and the wire..
Hiding in plain sight. 😉Just a 68K resitor is needed to make it identical
jeff
I was hoping for a little differant sounding input as the ones that already there not the same as the one. A little differant voicing is what I am after

I think that you are taking me for a fool, and probably also the other members who answered after my post.
You scored a place in my list of ignored.
Good bye !

Add a 68K 1/4W resistor in series with the jack + (tip) and the grid of the tube.I want to use the mic input as a guitar input. what optionss do I have. It is not worth much as a guitar input the way it is.
The only differences between the channels is the grid stop resistor.
Considering the OP may only want to do minor component mods, without doing extensive circuit changes. If the mic input is not usable as a guitar input "not worth using"..but really no indication of what they want it to sound like. What can be modded? You can change the anode resistor on the input triode, change the cathode resistor, or add a bypass capacitor across the cathode resistor. Change the capacitors on the tone control or coupling capacitor at the output of the first stage triode mic input. Everything else will be starting into a major refurbish of the phase splitter and power amp circuit.
So you have only the input stage triode for the mic circuit to play around with.
When someone says it's not worth using, then I would ask what the problem is? is it crappy sounding, weak or noisy? Has the amp been properly serviced and all the tubes have been checked and/or changed? Start with a proper going over the amp, and evaluate exactly what the issue is before proceeding.
Even someone with zero electronics experience can take the time to explain clearly what issues they are having. Please do so.
Yes I read your posts, and you said that you replaced a couple of components that were out of spec but wanting to keep it close to original as possible.
Have you swapped out the tubes with knon good units or checked them for correct operation?

I suggest reading through this article linked to Rob Robinette's amp voicing article. Plenty of good information on preamp components and how they interact.

Between Single tone control in pre.
And however the speaker sounds
is most the voicing you get.
If looking to stay original.
Can really only change the tone control caps.
Likely fine as is, unless it sounds in very odd place.
otherwise you would just increase gain.
and add high pass like any other guitar mod.
But for something like this. adding gain
kinda silly.
