Question about volume

Here is my setup: sound card -> miniDSP (with volume control )-> 2x hifimediy T2 -> speakers.

I'm having a little trouble with the volume being too low on some .mkv files. Currently my amps (hifimediy t2) are set at 3/4, since that is plenty loud for music. I'm considering turning them up, though, so my movies can be adequately loud.

I use the miniDSP for volume control. If I turn up the amps to max, will I experience added distortion? Or only if both the miniDSP is at full volume. I'm trying to avoid the fuzziness that usually comes with turning up amps all the way.

My understanding of amps is that they will only be driven at full volume, regardless of where the volume control on the amp is, if the input source is at full volume. If the input isn't at full volume, then the amps won't be either, even if the volume on the amp is at full. So, will I experience noise and distortion when my input is a lower volume (for music)? I'm fine with a bit more for movies since it's harder to notice.

Dang, there's a nasty buzz when it's turned up all the way. Time to go back down a bit, I guess, since I have no idea what's causing the buzzing if it's not internal to the amp.

EDIT: Never mind, it's my RCA cables. And probably a teeny bit from my SMPS in the enclosure too which powers the miniDSP. But it's barely audible when I disconnect the RCA cables. Time to go balanced or shielded.
