I've spent days looking for an answer, but my dense head is just not grokking what must be dead simple for everyone else.
I'll be using a 5AR4 (GZ34) and the schematic shows a 5R4 with apparently six connections. I assume I'd wire AC into pins 4 and 6 on a GZ34, but I'm stumped on what comes out--maybe I use pins 2 and 8, with one of those connecting to the LC network and the other going to to the 5V section of the power transformer/rectifier?
Is this schematic showing a standard convention that "everybody" knows and that I've somehow never seen until now? 😕

If you think of it that way you should not have any problems. Also make sure that your first choke is designed for choke input or it will likely hum and buzz under load, as I have found out the hard way😱

The circuit is badly drawn. The "two" cathodes and the heater connection are internal to the valve and all come out on pin 8. The other side of the heater connection is pin 2

Your thinking is correct regarding the pin connections. HVAC to pins 4 and 6, while 5VAC connects to pins 2 and 8. Use pin 8 for the LC network as that connects directly to the cathode. However if you will be using a Chinese made 5AR4 (hopefully not 😱) then insert a 1KV diode in each plate lead because chicom 5AR4s are less tolerant of reverse voltage and like to arc over.
