Everyone of you knows seems to know a lot more about this projector bidness than I do. 😉 If anyone could offer some help on this issue, I'd appreciate it.
I recently saved an LCD projector from an early grave. The image had developed a large yellow spot, and the manufacturer's only solution, even after I discovered the problem piece, was a $2800 replacement optics engine.
The problem was a small slide of glass with a polarized film on it, that was mounted between the dichroic filtered light beam and the blue LCD. (there are 3 separate LCD's in the unit - the dichroic lenses separate the light 3 ways, through the 3 lcd's, where the image is then passed into prisms which pass the reassembled image out the lens. amazing.) The polarized film on this lens had developed a small burn in the middle.
I'm e-mailing a polarized film supplier in the UK who thinks they can probably help, but before I go sending the piece overseas, I was curious if anyone here may have had some experience and knowledge about these and could offer input on what I really need there.

Can you post a picture of the problematic piece (preferrably while in the projector and a close-up while it's out of the projector). If it's a simple polarizer, then you can get it anywhere. If it's a dichroic piece of glass that you need, that is also relatively inexpensive to find in the states (about $50 depending on the part). You could also rip it out of a parts projector on eBay if it weren't different from what nearly all LCD projectors use to split the light.
what model do you have and do you have any pics? I have a coiuple of commercial projecters that i took apart and have several parts if you need any??

You can try edmunds (something close to that) optics... I just got their latest catalog at work. I have ordered a few speicialized mirrors, and filters from them that I use in Medical Lasers.
