Query regarding TAD TD-2001

Wondering if someone can help regarding removal of the mesh grilles at the base of the throat of the TD 2001s?

I read somewhere they are meant to sound better without the grilles but I'm not quite sure how to go about removing them? Would needle nose pliers be sufficient or do I need to fashion a hook of some sort? Or is there an easier way?

Any downside to doing this?

Thx for that Jon. I read through the entire thread, and while all agreed it is a good idea, no-one said how they actually went about removing them. Perhaps I should ask Paul Butterfield who "has done over 40 of them".

1) Voids TAD’s warrantee.

2) For a novitiate, the risk of failure is high

NB: If you follow PB's procedure #2 [1], re-glue the throat section. The purpose of the glue is to form an air tight joint. An air leak in the throat of a compression driver is a performance killer.
