quality of new threads going downhill

Nope, you misconstrue what I say. I don't really think the Lounge should be removed - try and imagine what diyAudio would be like without it. Pretty boring in fact. Yet some folks abuse the Lounge like it were a mosh pit - their own personal mosh pit. I just wish some of us could be a bit nicer to each other. That's all.

Minds could be refocused on audio by the removal of the lounge altogether

Either get rid of it altogether,

Sure, some of the threads can get a bit heated at times, but the trick is to stay away from those threads that are likely to upset you. Honestly, you gotta know what awaits you when you click on threads like 'Veganism' and 'Climate change hoax' (or whatever it was called). Some people like vigorous discussion, others not so much. The mods are generally lurking, ready to rein things in if things get out of hand or someone steps outside of the code of conduct.

Unfortunately, as in life, there are lots of nice people and some not so nice people. At least here there is an ignore button 😀

how to agree in three different ways using the same word

Yeah, I think you are right - plenty of nice people here, and yes, I do think once, even twice before entering an affray. And yep, there are a couple of threads here I keep well away from.

As for vigorous debate, I'm all for it, but I do find it difficult when some folks, obviously intelligent, respond in a knee jerk fashion that does nothing but reveal their own helpless solipsism. That, I'm still learning how to deal with. Must brush up upon my self deprecation skills 😉

I recall being asked to donate (money) to help with the server and data costs associated with diyaudio.
Archiving and disseminating long discussions about 'Beautiful women' and 'what are you drinking' aren't on my list of audio hobbyist information that deserves my support!

Also, in the cognitive dissonance department: Bemoaning the lack of women who participate here whilst continuing some of the 'Lounge' discussions....

Having to live around and deal with people who deeply disagree with you is part of life. Trying to find commonality is the best strategy. Convincing others to build barriers for you is self defeating in the long term.

Completely agree. If someone can effectively disagree with something I say or believe, and can articulate why, then I am honoured by that level of discernment. By doing so, and it does happen, I can feel empathy with that person. Sometimes I find myself disliking someone, yet agreeing with what they say. Call it respect, if you will.

Where I live, a person is judged by the way they treat their animals. After that, everything else comes second.

These threads are but a tiny fraction of a vast electronic knowledge archive, and a place to discuss all things audio going forward. This is what your donation is being used for, not archiving 'Beautiful women' threads.

How would you feel if diyaudio suddenly disappeared, along with all of it's content?

I usually skip these type postings. That's the nice thing about the inter webs, nobody forces you to read them.

My opinion is these type postings are that they are just another opinion.

But, what I really don't like is reading a posting about a problem with something audio that I may be having and the posting goes on and on and suddenly ends without a solution. I spend hours and hours reading these postings and the majority suddenly end. Either they advise you to send it to someone across the country, or they fix it via PM! That's exactly what this forum is not supposed to be for. I ain't gonna file a lawsuit if I get shocked.

I love DIY because frankly, there are very few people who can do any work that meets my standards. I work on my vehicles, my home and my electronics gear. I'm going to make my own speakers.

What I don't want to do is reinvent the wheel. That's why I come to websites like this. You take the good with the bad. If someone asks a question about a problem that I had with a brand and model stereo gears I have, I don't hesitate to answer and I understand that some people ask the same question over and over and the vets are tired of answering the same questions. Sometimes I look at postings and just look at the pictures, don't read the words.

Since I have more time than money, I'm willing to learn about fixing the junk I have, rather than spending tons of money on new gears.

Like Evanharmonics says- live and let live. Don't read the postings if you have no interest and your opinion doesn't count more than anyone else. Happy New Year to all!
