Quad CD67 SMD identification

Dear Mooly, Kay, 405man, sq225917, dacen

The problem has been resolved. This 'missing' component was a total red herring. There was a serious problem between fingers and brain.

The schematics I found didn't totally match the hardware present, so I had nothing to go on regarding the 'missing' component. During experiments, I noticed that the laser unit was seeking and trying to focus when the tray was open and not when the tray was closed. So it dawned on me that something was inverted somewhere regarding tray position sensors.

When replacing the cog, I removed all the connectors from the interface board below the tray for ease of access. I noticed there were two connectors on the PCB for the tray drive motor connector. One is normal polarity and the other is logically inverted. To cut a long story short, during reassembly, I had put the tray motor plug into the wrong socket. The correct one is the logically inverted one, nearest the orange sticker in the rear right corner of the PCB (seen from above)!

As for the 'missing' component, who knows. The CD67 seems to function normally without it.

TVM for all the contributions to this 'mystery' problem. Please feel free to have a beer on me. I hang my head in shame! 😱

Just good to know you have sorted it

I'm pretty sure the 'missing' part will be a quick production change, done by hand and done to resolve some oddball issue that one in a hundred might come across and that has cropped up when the players were 'let loose' on the public 😀

Enjoy.
