Quad 66 Scepter Remote Fault

Hi, I just joined the forum, and have an interesting problem that someone may be able to help me solve...

I am repairing a Quad 66 Scepter remote control, part of a friend's Quad 66 system, and it has the annoying habit of skipping several CD tracks when trying to select, say, track 3 or 4 (it goes straight to track 6 or thereabouts).

I have tested the CD player with the small black Quad remote that can also be used with the CD, but the track select function works fine when using this.

Could it be down to switch bounce or a faulty chip perhaps?

Any assistance will be gladly received!

I just found the answer to my own question!

It seems that the two track selector tactile switches were at fault - carefully disassembling them, and cleaning the contacts cured the fault completely.

The contacts were very discoloured, and a light rubbing with wet and dry paper soon got them shiny again.

It seems that the internal anti-bounce circuitry of the digital control chip (SAA3006) was not enough to prevent multiple bounces of the (dirty) switches!

I hope this info will be of use to others who may encounter similar problems.
