Would the sound of the QUAD 606 benefits from an external PSU like what the PSX did to Cyrus? I f the answer is yes, my next question is: what size should the external transformer be, 1000VA? 1500VA?
The Cyrus PSX has a 500VA transformer, which is ~2.8 times that of the built-in transformer inside the Cyrus amplifier.

I drive a pair of 989s with a pair of 909s using one channel of each so in effect each transformer only driving one amplifier. I find that the amplifiers do not clip and the 989 protection does not activate and the speakers go unbearably loud, using one amplifier in stereo causes the speaker to go into protection much more often and at a lower level which I think is because the amplifier protection operates.
