- No noise to begin with after switch on.
- "Buzz" is there when inputs are connected,
- both chanels affected even with one input only,
- disappears if power is disconnected, "sweet music" in this case for seconds of discharge.

Really? Even after you were told and given suggestions? Any particular reason you have ignored the help offered?
How have I ignored the help offered??! I was told to try the different grounding scheme and I did and it didn’t help.
I was told to short the inputs and I did and reported what happens. What suggestions did I not try?
I guess I didn’t try a different source as I don’t have anything I could hook up easily. This source works perfectly with every other amplifier so I fail to see how it could be the source.

But I am grateful for the attempt to help, I know it’s almost impossible to diagnose something without laying hands on it.
It's a combination of source and amp that's causing the problem, you've proved that already, it's silent until the source is connectedI guess I didn’t try a different source as I don’t have anything I could hook up easily. To me that is telling me that the camp is acting up once there is a signal, however small. I can’t see how it is the source is problem at all?
What did you do?
I first tried grounding the inputs to a point on the chassis near the IEC.
Then I tried grounding them to the ground point on the boards as was suggested. No change.
Then I tried grounding to the first point after the main power supply caps. No change.
I also went over all the capss I installed and made sure they were polarized correctly and they were as far as I can see.
