hiiii diy audio lovers 🙂
I am having a set of Quad 2905 connected to a Lazy cat First one amplifier. My streamer is directly connected to the FO power amplifier.
This combo sounds great BTW.... but i want a little more bass, but most of all, I want some extra "protection" for the quads in the lower regions. I know that I will get some “purist” telling me that I should leave it this way. I am thinking about using 2 jazzman ripole subwoofers powered by some of the hypex fusion family. But I want the quads (as satellites) still being powered by their Lazy cat FO. Would this be possible? Which Hypex would be the best choice… (and how should this all be connected? (Should I use the digital signal from the streamer to the Hypex to avoid double DAC (is there an analogue output from the hypex to a stereo power amp?) ) or is there another great option out there?
thanx.

It will not work, the sub's will be delayed due the latency ( 1.2mS) of the fusion.
Thanks. But would it be possible to connect the power amps for the quads (the satellite speakers) to the fusion plate "after" the dac?? So I am not going to use the ncore to drive the quads.
In that case the latency will no be a problem, would it? But, is it possible?
If you read the datasheet from the NCxxxMP series, it is possible to extract the analog dsp output ( cutting some wires from the flatcable).
But why not try the Fusion amp for the Quad's, I think you will be pleased.

Great. Superrrrrrr. Thanks a lot. I was hoping that you would be the one to give an answer. You really know this stuff. I will consider using the fusion amp for the quads too. Which one of the family would you prefer using when I connect the quads. And.. thanks again.
Depends how much power you need for the subs. The Quad's like power what I read , 200W at 4 ohm minimum. So it will be a 252 or 502.
Hi daanm, how's life
From the ESL 2805 and 2905 manual:
"The ESL loudspeaker should be used with an amplifier of output capability of 20V - 30V rms (40-100W into 8 Ohms). The impedance characteristic presents no problems to the amplifier. Protection circuits limit the maximum input voltage to 40V and there is no benefit from using an amplifier with an output greater than 30V rms (100W into 8 Ohms). Amplifiers with an output capability in excess of 35V rms (150W into 8 Ohms approx) may be used but with caution"

Thanx ds23man. and many thanks to Clog.
Nice to hear from you, Clog.
I saw on the forum that you are experiencing some trouble with your quads. Sorry to hear that.
This Hypex solution is growing on me.
@ ds23man: what do you mean with “it is possible to extract the analog dsp output “
Or did you mean : “it is possible to extract the analog dac output “ ?
As the DAC is coming after the DSP output, so I assume that the DSP output is digital.

How are you doing the crossover/phase/equalising?
hi Kazap, this Hypex FusionAmp "thingy" is a plate amplifier with crossover included. Have a look on diy audio or Hypex Electronics B.V.
