Huge thanks to this forum - and Leslie in particular...
I posted my thanks in the other QED A240CD thread on this forum, but I thought I'd also past a link to it here - in case it's of use to anyone else doing a search on fettling their A240CD.
Mine was running very warm. Thanks to the info on this forum (and to Leslie in particular), it's now running just fine! http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/solid-state/125742-qed-a240cd-blows-fuse-powerup-4.html#post3029520

I just requested the service manual via PM, Brian.
Hope you don't mind helping myself with a copy also.
Cheers
Ian.

brainf,
Any chance I could join the seemingly long list of people you have sent a copy of the QED 240 Service manual to ?
I'll PM my e-mail address.
Thanks
Nick

Got it thanks.
Based on the number of people you have sent this to, it looks like you are responsible for keeping a whole bunch of these going !
Thanks again
Nick

Hello brianf,
Any chance of a copy for me too?
Now that I'm back living in Canada and have access for the first time in decades to my fathers broken A240CD I just have to try and fix it. Will PM you my email address.
All the best,
cbredfred

Brainf,
Just to repeat my thanks for a copy of the service manual.
I finally got the time to look at this amp, and found the problem was R32 and R33 - one had gone o/c the other high resistance. No physical signs of failure, so I suspect a long slow process. The fact that these had been circled on the scanned service manual suggests that it may not be that rare a problem.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know another A240CD was saved thanks to your willingness to share the service manual.
Best Regards
Nick

I have an A230 with a slight issue. I've replaced all of the transistors in the power amp section (pinouts checked) and it is playing music again, however I get a thump on power on on both channels and the bias circuit is working backwards - mid-way on the VR gives around 100-200mV of unstable bias, fully clockwise gives around 1mV. What are D5 and D6 please - these are listed as "QED only" they measure 250mV in one direction on a diode test when removed.
Manual QED A240
Hi, I'm following your discussions about the QED A240 and also I have a similar problem, I could also have a copy of the manual for the repair?
In Italy it is nowhere to be found, sorry for my english and thank you in advance.
Regards Leo.

The service sheet covering the main circuit board of basic, CD and SA versions of the A240 amplifier, has been available at hifiengine for a few years now. Some details, like the power transistor types, are omitted but if your interest is in a real amplifier rather than academic, that should be no problem.
