PSUDii has a 6CJ3 built-in. The dynamic behaviour of these are very similar to PY500A - so you can simulate with your load, and see that the peaks are not above 1000mA, as per the PY spec.

IT's a fine rectifier, but best with choke input, IMHO.

Agreed re. choke input although I find a small input cap can sometimes benefit . There is a 6D22S model which is close , the additional text .psu files on the Duncanamps website contains a PY500A model . PY500A is my favourite slow start rectifier 😉

Hi Doz,

Although you have written that choke input is out of the question, I'd encourage you to reconsider.

Even if it will keep the peak currents within the limits, the PY500s will not like those 220uF much. Also sonically you will not get the full sound potential of a tube rectified bridge.

Choke input, or small cap input (1uF or less) is far superior, but requires higher secondary voltage which is probably the reason why you want to use cap input.

Physically I don't have the room ... I can always experiment later ... to be honest I've only used then (they're actually EY500's) because I have a bucket load of them. It was either that or sand 😉
I don't need anything like 220uF , so will stick with my 47 uF
