PWM and comparing waveform (sawtooth or triangle)

This could be under power supplies as well...

I was wondering, when using PWM (either for designing a SMPS, or a modulated waveform, as in a class-D amplifier), some circuits compare the input waveform with a triangle wave, and other circuits compare the input waveform with a sawtooth wave.

What is the difference, and when would you use one or the other?
