Push pull vs single driver for bass horn

An example from DJK posted on another forum https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/142855-ppsl-vented-lascala/ though the thread kind of fizzled out towards the end without measurements.

@DJK, In hindsight, would you recommend I build some sort of hybrid reflex horn / vented PP horn or just implement a PPSL reflex . I'm guessing the vented lascala would be about 2 x 2 x 3 vs. 2 x 2 x 2 for the PPSL.

FWIW, I have a couple of dayton classic 12 that I could repurpose for at least one PPSL cab. Dayton Audio DC300-8 12" Classic Woofer (although I don't have a problem acquiring other woofers if these are not suitable)

I would like to cross over at about 300 - 400 Hz to whatever midrange type device I chose

OTOH, I've typically preferred the ease of presentation of horn loaded bass .

Neither of these look too hard a woodworking job.

@DJK, which drivers would you recommend for a PPSL lascala / belle type horn. In your linked post, you mentioned some silver flutes (available on madisound) and possibly some vifa 8" (not sure which ones). Are they these ? https://www.parts-express.com/visaton-w200s-4-8-woofer-with-treated-paper-cone-4-ohm--292-570

Should I consider one, vs the other, or other alternatives , for a ported vs sealed rear chamber. My initial design is at http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/subwoofers/268959-zobsky-contemplates-variation-belle-klipsch.html

Thanks

Somewhat off-topic, but this thread reminds me of one of the "cleanest-sounding" builds I've ever done, which was a 4th order BP alignment driven by a pair of drivers in a clamshell isobaric arrangement. I'm guessing that the isobaric arrangement minimized the even order distortion and the odd-order distortion was filtered out by the vent as it would start somewhere above the system's passband. I'm guessing that a push-pull 4th order BP alignment might have the same advantages too....

I have to agree with you on that Brian! I had an iso-bp4 with four MTX RT2 15's. The sound coming out the four 4" ports was amazing!
