Prototyping AK4395 based DAC

Hi Peter,

Well, I have to make clear that my M-Audio superDAC has 4393 and not 4396. I wish I had 4396 🙁 AR2 where did you get them?
I was told that EMU 0404USB has them also.

The AK4393 DAC fed through Monarchy Audio upsampler sounds really nice, with very good detail and frequency extremes, strong and punchy bass-midbass. I am using OPA627 with what seems to be 1 pole filter and it is very on your face, dynamic.

The last version of DIDAC is another animal, as goes the saying...
It simply sounds like music. Instrumental textures and timbres are better, there is no sign of "digital edges", the attacks and the flow of the music are more natural. The imaging is denser...etc.
It is surprising how good can sound that old primitive DAC chip 😀
I would choose the AKM based DAC for parties and the DIDAC for the rest of the time 😉

I confess that I would love to get one of those 4396 chips, though...they seem to be very good and need gentler filters so I can try a discrete output.

Sorry for OT.
Cheers,
M
