hi AndrewT
I thought this problem , but I chose this ( neoprene suport) because I had a good result.
The material located at this link:

Jon,
You dont have any vents in the enclosure?!? Does it get hot?
it is not necessary...
Very nice done, but I think there is a little market for such products mainly because of price but also because it's not innovative enough.Today people want some displays and microcontrollers to play with.
Must lite up like a Christmas tree! It must interface with an Iphone!
It's unfortuneate that too many of us are fascinated with a lite show and infected with the "isn't that neat" syndrone. Too many of us can't get our a$$ off the couch long enough to turn a knob. Another remote control to take it's place along side of the other three. GRH

Impressive and incredible work!!!
From design, implementation and production, simply amazing.
Interesting choice in the 2N5566, it seems to be obsolete and long out of production whereas the 2SK170 is available from numerous reputable distributors.
The LSK170, which is an upgraded 2SK170 is also available.
Can you elaborate on your choice?
I'm guessing you could not use this with a source with any DC on it's output????

I have to say this is impressive, especially if it's your first DIY project. My first DIY projects ended up in the trash because I was horrible at electronics construction. I've since improved but I still don't have friends with a CNC machine to custom-grind me a chassis. Oh, how sweet that would be.
I want to ask about the ratings of your power transformer. For preamplifier work (you did say this was a preamplifier, correct?) it looks a little big. If the transformer is a little big, what is the rationale in using it for a preamp, a circuit that doesn't draw very much current. Alternatively, does your preamp draw a lot of current? I have seen people say that an amplifying device is less sensitive to noise if the idle current is higher but I haven't read any factual data.
Impressive work. I haven't built a preamp yet although I need to. Right now I'm using a tube/MOSFET hybrid headphone amp as a preamp to feed my brand new transistor amp. I just finished the amp about 30 minutes ago and I'm giving it a test toast.

If you're talking to me, I have one. I have to update it because it's been changed plenty of times between the prototyping and the final build. I think I'll post pictures and a schematic under the Amplifiers forum.

hello hags!
my choice to not choose the 2sk170, I had many problems with it, changed its features with temperature, had to buy 20 units to have two identical (I use a differential input), was a sweet sound and slow. And many counterfeit units.
The 2N5566 is very stable with temperature, the sound is very natural, low noise ... the best we've tested to date. amazing, no comparison to 2sk170.
best regards

hello BowtoEd
my choice to increase the capacity of power transformer, was to have greatly improved the low frequencies in audio and .... thanks for your opinion

I'm now developing unit riaa (phono stage), if possible I'll put here a topic about my new project.
Here is some pictures of that unit.
-riaa passive correction, with capacitor dynamicap,
-mother board, supply rails with a copper OFC 6N.
-power suplly identical to the preamplifier
-and one module of amplification right or left.
note: the boards do not have all the components and after all the components are placed. is cleaned resin of solder.

I would use the same words to describe the SK170.
In a differential input they sound a little slow and I'll also add somewhat rolled off. This has been well documented by Borbely. You can cascode the input but at a higher parts count and more matching.
The Linear Systems LSK170s are a step up but a real, current production alternative doesn't exist. I've searched high and low for a few 2N5566 that you used but unless I want over 100pc @~$200USD there are none available.
if you need 2n5566, I recommend utsource. Send an email to Mr.. Davis. sales@utsource.net The price ranges between 8 to $ 10

I've often wondered why designers use large (300 VA range) power transformers for pre-amplifiers. The preamp I am designing may use 10 mA or less. The main need for current I can see in a preamp would be the output stage, where the final stage sometimes needs to be a mini-power amp to drive heavily capacitive cable or power amps with a low-impedance inputs.my choice to increase the capacity of power transformer, was to have greatly improved the low frequencies in audio and .... thanks for your opinion
If my preamp had bass problems my first instinct wouldn't be increasing the PT capacity. I'd look at each amplifier and probably change out coupling or bypass capacitors. If there were an NFB loop then I would redesign it. If none of that worked I'd get bigger power supply capacitors.
I'm not criticizing you for your PT choice. Your amp, your parts, your decisions. What method did you use to find the right PT? Was it just trial-and-error or did you calculate it by using the inductance of the pri/sec?
