As usual the thd is a poor indicator of perceived sound. Subjectively the difference is a lot more profound.
But subjective differences are typically imagined, not real. Expectation bias is a whopping great effect. Do some double-blind or blind-ABX tests.
0.001%THD with a flat response 20-20k will mean no human can tell the amplifier from any other 0.001%THD amp, given the input is in the audio band and no clipping etc happens. This is proved beyond doubt by double-blind testing.
IM and THD are intimately linked, very low THD means very low IMD, once they are low enough you simply cannot perceive them.

[ edit: Oh, the two amp's need the same high damping factor, loudspeakers have much more distortion and really do respond to different drive impedances ]

PMA just finished a listening test for 2 preamps in Can you hear a difference between 2 solid state preamps?,... Do some double-blind or blind-ABX tests.

So cute. Priceless.
That seems a bit unlikely. Lots of commercial hi-fi equipment is IEC Class II with a metal case and legal in the EU, which the UK still is a part of right now.A metal case must be earthed in the UK for any mains appliance.
I went through a number of UK eBay listings for receivers just in case. Sure enough, plenty of dual wire mains cords and "double insulated" symbols. Not a huge surprise, really.

A good choice of words for this.

McGurk effect - totally imagined change in sound... Go check it out. The mind plays tricks on audio perception (way more than on vision).
