My goal is to have a killer setup for playing DVD's and for my Xbox... I'm not that interested in using the projector as my computer output.
I already have an Elmo HP-A305 SD 7300 lumen OHP on the way.
Now I need to decide what to get for an LCD and possibly a line doubler, since I don't want to have a PC constantly hooked up.
I was thinking about buying a NEC 1545v monitor and taking it apart. Is this monitor overkill for DVD's since essentially the highester resolution is 640x480 for a DVD movie? On the other hand I would still get the benefits of that monitor's great contrast and response time.
My Xbox plays DVD's but they are interlaced... so that is why I would get the TV-3000 line doubler. Another thought is for me to possibly get a DVD player with progressive scan and VGA output... if I got that, would I even need the TV-3000 to improve the image quality? I probably wouldn't miss the ability to display regular TV on my setup. Let me know if you think the TV3000 + interlaced DVD or the progressive scan standalone DVD is the better choice. Some Xbox games can be displayed in 480p mode... if I go with the TV-3000, will the 480p mode be retained when it runs through the TV-3000? Thanks!

i looked at the dvd player in your post, and i didnt see that it made any mention of vga out.

the tv-4000 has a lot of posts on here. search this forum for more info.
sounds like our projects are similar.... good luck. advice is hard to come by, so read posts thoroughly for good info. it seems previously asked questions seldom get responded to.

im curious about a dvd player with vga out though.
it sounds like depending on the panel you choose, or monitor you are correct in some assumptions. but better resolution will be just that...BETTER RESOLUTION. this can be negated by a larger screen size for the same posistion of the ohp in some cases. i have a xga native display and only use vga at this point becasue i dont want to move the ohp to the middle of the room. if i did i would get a better resolution in the xga projection. but i dont and if i project in xga, all i get is a bigger image. (ie. projected pixels themselves are same size)
im happy woth what i have for now while i save money for a real projector. unless a dvd player like yours materializes at a cost effective price that is....
