Before everyone starts to cheer for me, I still need to invest. I also need to tell you that I am 13 years old. But before you start to
at me, I just want to tell you that I do know what I am doing! I have an excellent knowledge on the mill itself and I know what the stuff (that I will use) in the CAM program means and does. I'm not some crazy GIMMIE GIMMIE teen just going to put the milling machine in a corner and never use it. No. I will use this milling machine for the good of mankind. If Philo T. Farnsworth where here to see me now I bet I'd make him proud.
So back on track, yes I am investing in this mill and thank goodness it's not one of those million dollar systems. The system uses EMC on a linux computer (provided by Sherline) and the rest is from Sherline. Once I get good at this I'll be 100% up-to-date with the latest PCBs.
If everything goes PERFECTLY, I maybe...might...someday...somehow...perhaps make some prototypes for some friends 😀 But this is NO GUARANTEE! I will need to be able to get good enough at it so that I can do that.
And please remember, I know what I'm doing for starters, and I will progress to an EXPERT! 🙂
Please tell me what you think!
Thank you.

It is a great idea. if you like making stuff you will really enjoy it.
so far i have a Taig mini lathe, and i am hoping one day to get the CNC mill as well.

That very cool dude!
I've been tinkering with the idea of making an XYZ plotter platform so that you could do your own milling as well. I do quite a bit of embedded and Win software, so that is covered. Just finding stepper motors here is a problem.
Any South Africans have a source for cheap steppers around here?
Cheers

Mostly GUI and database stuff using Delphi or C#. I've tinkered with some Vectoring, hence my interest in doing something like this. The ideal would be if you could import Gerber data for PCBs or Solidworks for front panel design....

I'll donate a PC in return for some CNC'd stuff.
Woohoo!! Where can I send the beers??
This'll save some time... Now I just need to find some cheap stepper motors!

Old inkjet printers are full of them.
IIRC, Alltronics has a unipolar driver kit for 10$.
One of the characteristics of an expert is that they usually don't need anyone's approval or permission to do what they do. If you have to ask what anyone thinks I'm afraid you're condemned to stupidville.
mill
First, I agree with Retroaudio, as he said, you ask someone's op. U are fooled by.
You do what you wanted. As ISO9000 states that you do according to what you have written on your Quality Manual.
I think the one got a Sherline Mill, if the mill satified his requirement. that would be fine, you don't have to listen to anyone else. Of cause, the more money you invest, the better machine you get. The point is you consider the machine is it suitable for your application, that would be enough.
WE CONSIDER WHAT YOU NEEDED, THEN INVEST
