Hi,
I study the complete restoration of a famous NAKAMICHI 1000ZXL, and by reading the Service Manual, I see that a few electrolytic capacitors are marked "(LN)" next to their value.
I know that "(BP)" stands for "BIPOLAR", and I assume that LN could mean Nichicon LN (I will check that as soon as I receive the device), but I could be wrong.
Do you know what "(LN)" stand for ?
Is there a type of "most appropriate replacement" , or should I just use a good cap, such as ELNA Silmic II or Nichicon KZ/FG ?
Thanks

LN should be for Low Noise.
Probably Low Leakage capacitors.
Good info about capacitors is Pioneer service guides, for Low Leakage capacitors (Low noise) is "Pioneer Tuning Fork 2-capacitors-pt2", you can download this PDF on Audiokarma, post 11:

Thanks Nironiro .
Should I preferabily use "Low Leakage Nichicon" too, or can I assume that any MODERN audio grade caps, such as Nichicon FG or Elna Simic II, would be as good as the low leakage series ?
Thank you,
Michel

Use Nichicon UKL Low Leakage Current which is a modern replacement for the older orange LN type polarized electrolytic capacitors.
The UKL has 15x less leakage current than regular or audio-grade electrolytic capacitors.
If the value is 2u2 or less, you can use stacked polyester instead if you can fit it. Polyester has essentially zero leakage current compared to the UKL.

I should use those Nichicon UKL, as ej25awd said.
I am not expert for Nakamichi's, but I suggest you to join Tapeheads.net, there are some really expert and they like to help with your restauration of this great deck.

Thank you very much for your replies : this is what I planned to do !
I would appreciate a suggestion (example) on these stacked polyster caps ?
Thanks again !

Wima : MKS and MKS2 series
Kemet : R82 series
Epcos : B32529 and B32559
Choose your favourite colour from red, beige or blue.
Vishay and Cornell Dubilier has equivalent series as well.

Thanks ! I mainly use WIMA or KEMET in those cases, so you confirm my thoughts...
