This is my DIY videoprojector, it's 90% finished
used an OHP + nView panel + 400W MH (the usual stuff)
built into the smallest box possible and added a computer (in the box)
5MB pictures
enjoy

Just wanted to say great job! You took tones of pics as you progressed. Not many people here do that.
I like it!
Allthough there are some things to say about putting a pc inside(by the way: what pc was it?) . i would have gone with a VGA theater or at least the cheesebox = cheaper and at least the same results and tuner is included. I opened the vga tuner and it is easy to work with. eventually one could just extend all the outlets and lead them into mounting connectors.
nut... nice picture, i think you get the result of my ikea projectors.
finally someone who post picture , and ofcourse from Belgium!

If you follow the links I made, there are more pictures and full specs of built-in PC, its a duron 892 with fully integrated SIS chipset. There are also some screenshots of PC-temperatures. It doesn't cook.
I can connect any other external PC via VGA (i.e. one with a TV-tuner). I could add TV-tuner (or VGA-card with video-in) to the built-in PC using a riser-card but then I would have to move the HD above the ballast. and I have no idea yet of what effects that would have on the HD...
I like the built-in PC because now I have only one box + mouse to carry and connect it only to a HiFi-system with 1 cable for a fully movable theater setup.
And could you explain the words "cheesebox" & "ikea projector" ?

cheesebox/ikea casing
yes i saw all your pics, great!!! nice result
i understand the all in one, the mouse (ir) is used to command all equipment inside the box. that's a good idea.
Ikea casing is my idea and i made 3 projectors like that using the APA toy box from Ikea. i posted pics in the yahoogroup.
the cheese box is a vga converter. turns any video signal into vga , without the need of a pc. the more advanced version (vga theater also has a real cable tuner included and also handles stereo. it has a line doubler. great tool, it also enhances somewhat the pic quality brightness, saturation, hue.

speakers = no option
Speakers would have made the box to big.
A small (car-)amplifier should be possible.
But in most places there allready is a better amplifier available.
No room for DVD inside the box.
Please, do read the text on the webpages that I posted.

I think it would be better to build a projector into a computer, rather than a computer into a projector.. 😀
I will post some pics soon as well *go belgium go 😉 *
I TOTALLY changed my plans for my PJ: now its MUCH smaller but.... I dont use a second fresnel: i replaced the two page magnifier fresnels with one OH fresnel, pressed agains the lcd and I think its at least as bright as the previous setup. Sorry I cant post now (supposed to be studying *YUCK*) but soon... I promise! 😉
PS: Akeem, waar haalt gij uw materiaal ergens?? Moeilijk te vinden in Belgie vindek...

@ywh: can't open that link
@declined: bought LCD on ebay USA, Lamp in Antwerp and got OHP from a friend
Yesterday I watched 2 movies with projector, temps stabilized at 50° for motherboard and 70° for CPU.

The LCD is connected with a proprietary cable to its controller, from the controller to VGA out I used a self made 15 pins cable (from 7+8pins=gameport-connector -> 3x5 pins=D-SUB).
This cable loops on the outside of the box, so I can also connect another VGA source.

PSU shuts down
Problem:
My PSU (->cooling for lamp + built-in computer) shuts down when I start the MH lamp.
So I have to start the MH lamp before the PSU.
I'd rather have it the other way around.
The problem is probably caused by electric field created by the 4500V (is this correct ?) starting current from the ignitor.
This problem does not occur to other nearby computers when I start the lamp, only to the built-in computer.
This problem does not occur when I use the "wire trick" to boot the PSU (no motherboard to start PSU).
So this problem should be related to the motherboard or the ATX power cables that feed the motherboard.
I've tried to relocate the electric cables that go to the lamp as far away from the PSU as possible -> no succes.
I've tried to shield the cables using tin foil -> no succes
scroll down for more pics
What else should I try ?
I would like to avoid shielding the whole PSU with a metal case (place constraints).
None of the tin foil, PSU or ballast are grounded, because most places where I want to use the projector have no ground; would it help überhaupt ?
Would shielding the motherboard help ? how can I shield it ? tin foil ? should the tin foil go all around it to be effective ?
other Ideas ?

Have you measured the voltage and amperage on the mobo present line? I believe its eith 5 or 3.3 volts. Most likely the drain from starting up the lamp is enough to drop them down therefore it thinks the mobo is disconnect and tyhen reconnected when the surge goes down. This could be happening because of the proximity of the cpu ps.
Try by pass the mobo present lead (shorting the wire out) and see if that fixes it.
