Comparisons

I was wondering if anyone has actually built and compared the following screens against each other. How would you rank them?

1. White wall
2. Black out cloth
3. Plastex
4. Dazian Celtic Cloth

If I get some free time I might try to experiment with the Dazian cloth if its not too expensive.

Right now I'm pretty happy with the white wall, but I suspect that I can do better for not too much money.

If I was going to do the blackout cloth, I might as well do the Dazian if it would be much of an upgrade.

I would love to hear from someone who has actually used the Dazian for a screen.

thanks all...

Hi Everyone,

Ok, I did a little screen test tonight. I taped my itty bitty 3" x 5 " sample of Dazian Celtic Cloth onto my Behr White Primer wall screen and played a movie.

I was not impressed with the Dazian at all. I know it was just a 3 x 5 sample but I saw no signifcant improvement with it. Nothing worth spending $50 more dollars to build a frame and buy the Dazian.

🙁

I think I am going to just leave my screen as a painted white wall. I may try to improve it a little and at least paint it Behr Ultra Pure White.

I still plan to do a test with the Pearlescent paint since I already bought it.

Back to the drawing board.

my parkland plastic's sheet just came in! It's in a big long box rolled up. It's bright white matte of one side and shiny on another.... seems like it will work well. I unrolled it to inspect for any damage and there was nothing significant that I could see aside from a slightly chipped corner that will be hidden in my final screen anways, and a little dirt in a couple of spots but you can't really see it from a distance. Plus it seems like the dirt will come off very easily as it was already rubbing off just by running my hand on it. It will be a while until I can test it out because I'm still building my projector case and things are in a state of disarray right now.

I got a 5x8 foot sheet but you can get it in 5x10. Those are the maximum sizes. It was $50 shipped, took 4 days to ship from indiana to connecticut. The reason why I went for the 5x8 over the 5x10 is because i'm building a 4:3 aspect ration screen, so even a little bit of the 8 foot length will be trimmed off. by the way, am i crazy for building a 4:3 screen? i know 16:9 would look cooler hanging on the wall but it wouldn't be able to handle xbox games and tv...
