Hi, I need help in troubleshhooting my Magnepans 1.7i!
They emmit a kazoo like sound, when playing Trumpets or womens Voices.
It sounds distorted and only affects a small high frequency range.
It's not so much dependent on volume, even at low volumes it's recognizable.
Visualy the foils look ok. The alu-traces are OK and completly glued to the foil.
There are three dots in the middle of the membran, to spread resonances.
I suspect, there's a rubber between the discs that has hardened over time.
The speakers are 6 years old.
Did somebody experience a similar problem?
I ruled out the other components in the chain.
It's definitly the speaker.
What's your opinion?

If you have a sinus generator you kan find out where the resonance begins and then it's easier to locate.
Then you can find out what's wrong.

I believe the switch to foil conductors on the current models fixed the delamination problem for good.
Check whether debris may have become lodged between the panel and magnets.
Anything more than a simple problem will require a trip back to Magnepan.

Yep, I inspected the foil with a flashlight through the fabric. I guess I have to remove the staples at the bottom and undress the speaker for a more thoroughly Inspektion 🙁
@taotao : possibly your Magnepan suffers from "wire lifting", which is not an uncommon issue for old Maggies... That's what occurred on my SMGb - see below in yellow the region where the bass wires lifted, at the extremes in general. This generates buzzing-crackling sounds on the forte or on some notes :
Two possibilities :
* Or it is the bass wires that lift, and they are quite easy to reglue with neoprene glue, after a local gentle acetone cleaning of the Mylar surface.
* Or it is the treble wires that lift (aluminium ribbon that can be seen at left on the picture above), and this is much more delicate to reglue, because you must not cut them if you attempt to slighly remove them for regluing : they are very fragile and thin, an it it impossible to resolder them (Alu) when cut.
The usual lifting problem is located on the bass wires, fortunately, because they receive the most power. This is the easiest to fix...
The treble wires can also be affected by corrosion, can degrade and cut for that reason, calling for a replacement (Magnepan can sell you the parts), which is a "neuronal surgeon work", if I can say so, according to one of my Maggie friend, who did it several times on Tympany models. I never had to do this, since on my SMGb, the Alu ribbon are in perfect condition, only the bass wires needed regluing.
So I suggest you to remove the cloth and have an accurate examine of those wires. 😉

@tubelectron 1.7i speakers don't have wires. 🙂
I suspect the issue will identify itself when the socks are removed. It's a tedious but easy process to remove the staples and then socks.

My bad, it's fortunately not the speaker.
I had digital clipping in my Raspberry Kodi Box.
My Chain is Raspi Kodi --> Raspi Camilladsp. Normally I recognize digital clipping in camilladsps Web Interface.
Here it clipped in the Kodi box, strange, it never happened before. Camilladsp didn't show up clipping.
Anyway I'm glad, not to do some crazy Magnepan surgery 😵

Looking at the grill cloth, I'd say Blaupunkt, but maybe it can also be a Telefunken or Körting ?
Nonetheless, it's an excellent instrument : just connect a MP3 or CD player on it and you're done ! Here are mine : a Blaupunkt Milano (upper) and Riviera (lower)...

Nice Radios you have.
It's a Saba. My son has a hobby; repairing old vintage tube stuff. The Saba has a motor for automatic scanning. If properly repaired this radios can sound very good.
He also implement bluetooth receiver in the radios. Kind of a more nicer Boombox.
