Just in the last couple of weeks, I've had problems with IE 6 locking up while on this site.
I've grabbed all the latest updates, still doing it. Not everytime, just certain threads seems to give it kittens. 🙁
Anyone else having problems, or is it just my POS computer?

Problems
Hi Bikeman,
My browser does not lock up but I have to use frequently the refresh or reloadbutton on top of the screen. Otherwise I get a totally white screen. This is since the latest blackout of the forum.
Also the emailsystem seems to be down.

White screen:
I use 2 computers with IE6.
It happens just as you describe on the one with XP, but not on the one with 2K. (Different ISP's though).
Email:
You mean this?
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: stripsession() in /disk3/hosted/diyaudio.com/htdocs/forums/member.php on line 1481

Same with me, and in fact I was beginning to think I might have picked up some bug or something.
Going from one page to another, the screen sometimes goes white and as I have some software (Net Medic) which lets you interrogate the current Internet activity, I checked this when the problems were apparent, and it showed the activity as being "Idle".
This usually means there is no response from the site you are trying to access.
The "Address" header at the top of the screen seems to look OK, so my system is trying to access the next page, or whatever, so it seems like it is a problem with the Forum's software.
I had been considering posting this info/concern before, as this has gone on now for over a week, but as there were some problems a while ago when we all got "banned", I assumed that it was a legacy of this, and didn't wish to grumble too soon.
In every case, after 'refreshing' the problem is overcome, so it is more of a nuisance than a real problem, and the Forum is usually so reliable, that I consider that we are very fortunate.
In case it helps in tracking down the problem, I am using Windows 98 SE, and Explorer 6.1.
Regards,

Thanks for letting me know ... This is now fixed.
The forum is undergoing major changes right at the moment and some little glitches have popped up.. When you have a problem, just let me know and I get onto it ASAP. I'll start a new forum for this.
EDIT: The new forum is here.
As a side note, alot of the problems of blank screens and images not showing can be fixed by doing a hard refresh (F5) or clearing the browser cache.
I have no problems whatsoever with this site while running Win2kPro SP3 and Opera 6.0. Opera has always had some interesting "features" that netscape, mozilla, and IE seem to ignore when it comes to "bad" code.
Some More Problems.
To reply to a thread, I am used to going 'right click>open in new window' on the reply button.
Going 'alt+tab', allowed me to be able to flip between the thread and my reply easily, but this is greyed out when I try it now.
I find the new arrangement to be ergonomically unsound.
Also the new 'quote' boxes display text in too small characters.
I fixed the blank page problem by setting my browser to 'check for newer versions of stored pages/every visit to the page. (Internet options/Tempory internet files/settings).
Eric.

Re: Some More Problems.
I think this is you SkinnyBoy.
1) Try Ctrl+N to open the new window then click reply. Sorry but I cant change it back to the way it was as the quote system depends on it.
2) Quoted Text is now bigger.

Empty your browser cache or try changing your settings to Check for a newer version of the page Every Visit.
You guys shoud try downloading and using mozilla
Among the great features of this browser is the pop-up/ pop-under blocking. No more crappy ads on websites, even geocities type sites are bearable!!! Its also really fast and skinnable, you can custmise it to your hearts' content.
Also no probs with the site here. Could be that IE6 has gone so far away from accepted standards that it has become incompatible...

The 'White Screen' started at work with IE6.0 recently, but at home with IE5.0 I don't have any such problems.

Well, the problems I was having were not white screens or anything that could be fixed by refreshing. All my IE sessions open at the time, including other sites, would just freeze.
I kept having to do the old "three fingered salute" to kill it off and then restart it.
Anyway, whatever might have changed over the last couple of days seems to have fixed the problem.
Right, NOBODY TOUCH ANYTHING!!
😉
