Problem with Pioneer SA 9800

I HAVE A CONSTANT PROBLEM WITH MY SA 9800 amplifier. One of the speakers starts to rattle (sounds hoarsely) and convey nearly no sound as if being blocked. After playing with a stereo switcher the problem disappears for a while, then returns again. Please help!

are you running continually through the (i'm guessing it's a speaker switch) switcher? if so, the switches need cleaning, resoldering or replacement, and there might be nothing wrong with the amp.

or maybe your switcher is an input switch, even so, same problem and same fix.

Hi benderski,
Yup, unclejed613 seems to be on the right track there.

The easiest way to figure out what is going on is to play a tone at low volume. Music can hide what you are looking for. Operate each switch and control slowly and listen for severe cutting out or crackling of the tone. You can write down each problem switch or control on some paper as you go. Then you have a good idea what to attack. One last thing to test, the speaker relay inside your Pioneer. You can try to bang on the amp, not so hard to cause damage. Listen for the sound to cut in or out.

I've even seen intermittent solder connections where the rear jacks solder into the PCB. Try to keep an open mind and pay attention to what you are doing.
