Problem with Arcam Alpha 7 CDP – May I have some suggestions regarding repair or replacement?



Hi,

My Arcam CDP struggles to read CDRs and on the odd occasion fails to read originals correctly.

When a CDR is inserted it continuously tries read the TOC and makes a clonking sound whilst trying to access the disk . After about 15 seconds it starts to play, but the sound is distorted. I've tried cleaning the lens and have lubricated the transport.

I haven’t edited the clip and the sound cuts out when the camera moves next to the speaker.


Do you think its worth repairing this transport or would I be better off going for a sub £100 transport off ebay and modifying it?

If so, which transport offers a better sound in stock form when compared to the Arcam? I am after something quite nice
