This kind if distortion can be caused by oxidized switch contacts but more likely a failed bias pot in an amplifier module. Can you get replacement modules? Are the modules potted? Can you take the module apart to fix it? If it was mine, I would reverse engineer the modules and replace it with my own. I suspect you could replace them with a dual op-amp like a TLE2072 on a proto board. If not, a discrete circuit should be easy.
But if you are not the owner, then you may have to find an AR part to maintain the "pedigree" since that is what such equipment is about, not actual performance.
