problem selecting midbass/sub

Hi all,

I`m trying to decide between 4 speakers:

JL Audio 6W0 (a pair of drivers, each in seperate enclosures)
Adire Extremis6 (a pair of drivers, each in seperate enclosures, but I don't think these are designed for cars)
JL 8W0 (one driver)
Adire Koda8 (one driver)

I`m looking for a bit of lowend to fill out sound, but I don't need to annoy neighbours. I just don't want a sub box sitting in my trunk or between the front and back seats. The drivers would be mounted in custom made boxes in "empty spaces" in the car, such as a door.

The freq. response are similar on all 4, so what would be the next deciding factor? SPL, Max SPL...? I'm running an older Sony Mobile ES 4ch amp , 1 ohm stable, 35x4 or 100x2 @4ohm.

thanks for looking,
Mike

You are using the speakers to extend your bass response? Or are they for midbass and midrange also? The XBL drivers would surely give you better midrange and midbasss (especially extremis). I believe the difference between most car audio and home drivers is the off axis response. If you're only using the speakers to extend bass down low then this is no concern. The dual extremis6's would probably give you the highest output.

yup, I`m just looking for bass extension, I can't stand having a sub box taking up space in my car 🙂

the jl 6w0 are great lil subs but reguire a encloser of .17ft3. If you put them under the seat for lows, that would be great. If you are going to put the woofers in doors you need a woofer thats made for doors(infanite baffle). Jl does make a 6.5 that is made for doors, it looks just like the 6w0 but is for infanate baffle( no enclosure).
Hope this helped

well, they aren't actually going into a door, but would be installed beside the rear seat (2 door car/4 seater). There is a larger space behind the panels where a custom fibreglass box would fit.
