Hi All,
This is my first post. I want to build a pair of Proac clones, and have tried to read everything I can about them on the net. But I still have a few questions. Hopefully someone here can answer.
1. What effect will putting the port at the front of the speaker have? Just that my placement will be less than perfect, and such will be closer to the wall/corner than I would like. I want to avoid boominess.
2. I am new to hi-res formats like SACD and DVD-A. Will these speakers do them justice?
3. I want to make a centre channel to match, but haven't found a definitive answer on this topic. So I was just going to make one clone with different dimensions (same volume of course) and place on or under the TV. I was hoping to buy some magnetic sheilding cups for the drivers. Does all this sound like a good idea?
4. Looking for a good place to buy all the parts for the Xovers. Online, or in Australia. Any suggestions? And what are the best component brands to use?
Lastly, I am not able to hear a pair of these clones, nor the original proacs. Can anyone comment on how they would compare to a B&W N804?

A - 804 costs quite a bit more than a 2.5 clone. Compare Audioreview.com reviews between the two.

I don't know about the clone, but my hifi-dealer sells both of them and makes more money on the B&W nautilus. Still he admits that he prefers the proacs.
I think the B&W's will have more acurate highs, but the proacs will sound more musical.
From what I read about the clone, it sounds almost the same, so you would have a very good speaker for the money. You can build a few pairs of proac clones for the price of one pair of B&W's.

I have found that the best crossover parts at a reasonable cost are from GSO Audio in Perth. the URL is http://www.gsoaudio.com. They sell Audyn caps which are basically Solen's but without the rediculous costs of Speakerbits in Melbourne. You will have to email him as his phone is still offline (but try the phone incase it has been fixed).
Btw. if you make the clones, make sure you make the crossover without the notch filter but with 3.3ohm cap to ground. It is FAR better IMO than the notch.

Thanks guys for your responses. I didn't even see the links section on this forum. Easy to miss, unless you scroll all the way down. 
Anyway, I have started building a centre speaker. Same internal as a proac clone2.5. Damn big thing, but I figure this is the only way to assure a timbre match with the fronts (2.5 clones to come).
