Look up toward the upper right near your name and the bell. You should see an envelope icon. There are other ways to get there, but that's the most obvious.

Is there a way to distinguish between sent and received messages?
Is there a limit to the amount of messages stored? If a limit exists, how do I know how much free space I have left?

Doesn't look like it.
No space limits now, but the number of participants is limited to 1 currently, more if you donate.
