You hinted at it already, but I'd have to question bending a chassis from scratch. I mean OK if you want a project and the satisfaction of doing it all yourself, but commercial chassis can be had from several sources, and they come already neatly constructed, appropriate cleanly made holes already in place, and in many cases the chassis is already plated and labeled.

I am currently wondering whether it is necessary to obtain a steel chassis at all. I am thinking I could use a bit thicker sheet of aluminum bent into an L and mounted from the ceiling of the cabinet.

Any thoughts on this?
