....
$500 seems reasonable to me and fair to whomever purchases it.
....
in my neck of wood, for any decently made FW format amp, hardware is costing at least 500 Eu Greenies
that based on Modushop 4U/400 case, which is certainly great bang for the buck piece
Custom case properly constructed, when counting all labor - must cost more than that (Modushop), be it pleasing to eye or not - that's different story
go figure .... 500$ is fair price for fair amp

Zen Mod, Thanks for the post, Knowing your love for Papa, I consider it a complement you think it is a fair price. 🙂
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or we all would like blondes. (I do)
Your still crazy, but that's good. Me too

For what its worth, I personally do not like selling any of my DIY stuff on ebay for liability reasons.
If someone can successfully sue a lawnmower company for severed fingers, due to mis-using it to trim the hedges, someone can easily sue you for any and all damages your amp caused, as you are the original builder...
Remember - unlike this site, the typical ebay buyer is probably NOT someone who has worked on, or understands electronics... god forbid he open unit and decides to do something we here would not do... my 2 cents.
EDIT - OK, so this story may be urban Folklore, but with this world being so sue-happy, it would not surprise me...

Ron,
That's a fair price for a nicely built amp.
I do hope you can find a local buyer to avoid shipping.
Good luck with your sale.

I actually had a professor that used an example just like the lawnmower one to show a situation where you couldn't successfully sue. Although it doesn't have to be a successful lawsuit for it to be a real pain in the A..
That said, I agree with you that this world is too lawsuit happy for me to sell something I built that uses household or higher voltage. It is probably just paranoia on my part because I haven't ever heard of an instance where someone was sued for damages from a DIY electronic item. I also have no idea what the burden of proof would be for either party since the item could have been changed after the transaction.
I know a lot of DIY electronics and amateur repaired electronics changes hands every day so it would be interesting to hear if there are any stories of "My house burned down", "My kid got shocked" legal cases. It is one of those situations where I don't think the average joe would find an attorney to take on a case like that but if you are unfortunate enough to sell it to an attorney that makes his living suing people on his own behalf it could be bad. Or if the person you sell it to then sells it to someone like that.
He sold a $40 printer. Then he was sued in Indiana for $30,000.

HA! You read my mind! That freakin' HP Printer lawsuit is EXACTLY what is on my mind every time I sell ANYTHING, let alone DIY stuff!
There have been a couple times where I had put up a DIY effort, like a home built Ampex B12N Guitar Tube amp on Craigslist, and after quite a bit of interest, wound up pulling the ad due to my "paranoia". Was it properly earthed, yes (well, a hell of a lot better than the 1960's original). Was good practice used for wiring? Yes. Components properly rated for their intended service? Yup. But there was always a thought that the buyer could be that "Printer guy"...
I have no issues selling here as I think the risks are somewhat muted. And that "Printer Guy" is likely NOT an electronics enthusiast.
A sensibly worded waiver of liability form is your friend. It might not be absolutely unassailable, but it would probably scare off the casual suit.
If it scares off a buyer, that's fine, another will come along.

Words to the wise!

I'll have them look something over. Should be simple.
Consumer electronics ship all the time. I build to at least that level of safety and quality. Have you looked inside the stuff from China? LOL.
Word to the wise. Got it ; NO Fleabay
