Press fit Teflon terminals

What are these? I get the feeling they were used decades ago in breadboarding.

Could they be used instead of generic perf boards? I'm thinking drilling some holes in wood or plastic, pressing them in and using the metal fork to solder some wire or components. To assist with point to point...

I have hundreds of these bought years ago off of eBay.

Yes, that's what they're for. You just have to drill an accurate hole, so the 'press fit' actually press fits...
