Yes, that circuit works well with many mosfets. I have BS170 and K1336 small mosfets but couldn't find Spice model for them. But the standard IRF610 works well with the circuit.
So, you are looking for a circuit for a use you don't describe with parameters that may be impractical because you already have a 19 cent transistor?

BS170 is a MOSFET.
If you mean 2SK170 (which happens to be a JFET) you might consider JBOZ circuit (with minor adjustments for +/- 9V PS).
