Hello.
A longer time ago I bought a Meridian 206DS cd player. I like the sound of this player. I would like to buy a suitable preamplifier to this cd player (planing on 2 way speaker system running active).
I have seen some Meridian 562, 561 and 201 preamps/processors on FlEaBaY for good money. But I don't have any experience with them.
Has anyone have experience with these (pros and cons) or what would be suitable preamp? In the range of €500 ($700).

thanks for suggestions

(speakers will be based on Fostex FE168E Sigma, with some LF support, music from smooth jazz, classical to soundtrack, rock, NO bum bum music 🙂 )

Danny,

I realize this thread is over a year old, but I have some experience with Meridian gear and can offer my two cents. The Meridian 206DS is a wonderful player, but I'd say your preamp choice should probably be more dependent upon your amplifier; however, if you want to stick to the Meridian brand, I would say try to find a 201 at a reasonable price. Meridian gear is made to go together, they sound best together, and they can be had at a bargain. The 201 has quite a few inputs, is remote controlled, and you may also like the smaller footprint. You might also seriously consider either the 562 or 561. The DAC in the 206 is good but dated. Both the 562 and 561 offer sound processing that will breathe a little dimension into the sound of your CDP and in general, are very flexible pieces of equipment.
