PreAmp and Equalizer for Hi-Fi, PA

Hi,
Can you post/recommend about a good PreAmp or/and Equalizer for Hi-Fi/home use and Dj/PA (I'm about to get a QSC GX5 Ampli w/balanced and unbalanced input connectors). Also a good 'DBX like' compression/expansion system. This should be under budget and not in the thousands (dollars/each), not so ever. Inputs will come from, mixing table, turntables, CDs. Thanks 4 your inputs and time. (I also accept ideas for 'tubes' for a future commitment/DIY or not.)

I get away with a bass/treble tone control on my disco gear.

In fact my valve pre amp doesnt have tone controls at all.

Isn't that crazy? Radio from the net is to good, or ok, or to much HF some times (hundreds of diff. radios). The radio from broadcast (FM) is full of bass around here. Need to adjust all the time when switching. Not talking about different CDs and Vinyl. Also different speakers (DIY or not). Did I talk about the room (size/type)?
