I was browsing around the local car boot and managed to pick up 4 osram powerstar hqi-ts 150w/ndl bulbs for (wait for it) £1 yes thats £1 for the 4 not £1 each 😀. All are in rather shabby outer boxes but the inner boxes are good so I am hoping they all work fine but at a pound if only one works its still a bargain.
Anyway I was looking through ebay for a suitable ballast but cant find one there are however many 250watt ballast's people are selling can I use a 250watt ballast with a 150watt bulb?
Next question if I decide to use 2 of these how close to each other could I place the bulbs.
Anyone got a good link to the practical use of ballasts I could do with learning a bit more about how they work and their limitations as I have never used them before.

Ok been doing a little searching. Is it just me or has google gone down hill lately? you have to wade through many pages of items for sale and companies selling before you get any real information.
anyway I have seen quite a few forums of people telling others you have to have a correctly rated ballast for the bulb but as of yet I havent seen any good reasons. My limited understanding of these things tells me you should be able to do it as it just means the transformer will not have to operate at optimum but would like and accept an explanation.
However I have found these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=46571&item=3857323693&rd=1 and am not sure if they are whats needed could someone a little more in the know tell me?
TIA
