Powering a fan with the NEC 1545v

Hi,
I'm sure somebody has answered this already, but I cannot find it in the records. Very sorry for the dupe!
I made an OHP with a Dukane 4000 OHP and a stripped NEC 1545v monitor. I read (I think at this forum) that one can power the cooling fan (the one that lies between the OHP tray and the LCD) using the monitor. I assume that means we use the power cables that previously lit the little fluorescent bulbs in the LCD, which are obviously not being used anymore. I'm not sure if this is right, though, because the connectors for the power cables that lit those bulbs are about 3/2 the width of the connectors for all the fans I see. I couldn't find an adaptor at my local computer place (Fry's); so, am I going about this the wrong way? Is there another way to power the fan through the LCD that I'm missing? Do most people go hardcore and solder?
Thanks a lot all!
