Powered PA Speaker Trouble

Hi, i have a pair of 15" Mackie Thumps, 5.5 years old, one of them has just died on me. I know its probably more cost effective to just buy a new one, but I thought maybe if i could diagnose the problem on here, i might even be able to fix it myself. Maybe its just a fuse or something!

Currently playing music at full volume from the source, and with the gain turned to max on the speaker, you can hear the music very quietly. I have tested the 15" woofer separately and it works fine so I'm assuming its an amp problem?

TIA

It´s a complex very high power amplifier, with supply rails about 165V or so end to end, very deadly.

In the old days, "Tube amps were deadly, SS ones not much" but with power (and supply voltage) creeping upwards year after year that is no longer true.

Doubt any Audiophile/DIY type Forum can help you with such powerful Pro equipment, suggest you try a Tech oriented Forum such as MEF .

In any case, very much doubt "a fuse" can solve your problem, that amp requires experience and a well equipped Lab .

It IS repairable, but you should get an experienced Pro Tech in your area.

Just in case, here´s the Service Manual for the 18" Subwoofer version; electronics could be basically the same as the 15" one.

I've had problems with the cold solder joints on the speaker terminals on the power amp board. The NEG (-) terminal is soldered to a large copper area, and it takes a lot of heat to get the solder to flow. I used a Weller 145 watt soldering gun to get the solder to flow quickly without heating up anything else in the process.
