I am building a 41hz amp6 and just wondering if a 13.5V toroid power supply would sound better than a WallWart 12V. If there is not much different in sound then I would just use a WallWart that I have on hand instead of trying to locate a suitable Toroid Power Supply for it. Thanks.
I assume you are building an Amp6 basic kit. I built the Amp6 kit and I did uses a 15v toroidal transformer with it. From what I have read many people like using a 12v sealed lead acid battery. Laptop style switching power supplies seem to be popular too.
It's a regular amp6 and not a basic. Assembly instruction said that I can use it with a 12V power supply.
The regular AMP6 has an onboard voltage regulator. You have a choice of final voltages when you build the amp, depending on what resistor you choose.
I always run mine at the higest voltage, which seems to come out at about 14.4 volts. To get that, you need more than a 12V tranfo. I use a 15V AC transfo that gives about 20V DC once retified and filtered (also onboard).

You are using the instructions for bypassing the rectifier and going straight in with DC then. If I were doing it that way I would be tempted to go with a SLA battery. In a review of the TA10.1 amp I read they used an auto emergency starter pack and said it sounded the best that way. I used a toroidal transformer I got from Partsexpress for $25 in my Amp6 and I have been very pleased with how it turned out. It is about the only amp I use now. One thing I did that was fairly easy was to put jumpers on the board where the 3.3 mf input capacitors sit. That allowed me to use film input capacitors external to the board.

I ended up using the Antec 12V toroid through eBay. I wanted a 15V, but they didn't have them and I didn't want to pay too much - yes, I'm a cheapskate....uh...frugal 🙂
Well I first tried the Dayton 1% foil caps from Partsexpress. They were only $2 or $3 a piece. I was pleased with the sound. After a month I ordered some Auricaps to try. They did sound a little better but at 10 or more times the cost. I think I should have stayed with the Daytons. A nice PIO cap might be good too.
