Hi.

So im trying to build a clean 48v psu for the starving student hybird. Mostly people use a POE injector psu, but theres been a few cases of the floating ground building up charge and frying a DAC. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/head...upply-grounding-millett-starving-student.html

Since im not a student any longer I'd like to start with a solid foundation providing power and make small improvements here and there to the amp.

Could use any resources to guide me in building a 48v psu. I have a basic undergrad grasp on full bridge rectifiers, bjts, etc, but have never built anything from scratch. I wouldnt mind going with something thats been designed before, but from what I've seen not too many popular diy designs ("the wire", sigma 11) push up to 48v (granted those are meant for ss applications)

This guy, right?

I would be inclined to use a toroidal transformer from Antek, and a Maida (LM317 based) regulator.

$11, assuming you are in the US...
AN-0240 - 25VA 40V Transformer - AnTek Products Corp

Parallel the dual 40v windings for 600mA before rectification, should give enough headroom for a basic linear regulator to sit you where you want. Cheap too.

Here's a couple Maida style regs that would work well, just use a BIG heatsink and you should be fine... Of course you will need to change some resistor values to be able to set your output at 48V.
