Am goofing around with crossover recaps and was under the impression that the big microfarad value caps - 90mfd - were woofer filters and that power supply caps like ASC 386 would work well in this case. Is this correct?
Well, I have been playing with recapping JBL speakers and will likely redo a pair of EV interface Ds. I have been experimenting for some time with caps since I bought a really cool electronics estate with lots of old pio caps and vitamin q caps. So far I recapped a pair of JBL 4408s w/ pyramid pios and they are hugely improved, but the interface d has some 90 mfd low caps and as I understand it would be overkill to put vit qs on that big value. I also will be trying to recap a NS-1000 crossover pair next and it also has a big value low end cap. It would be cheaper and I suppose sound better if I use a renowned bass handling cap like the ASCs. I will be doing all vit q for highs and mids since they rule any other electrolytic caps I have heard.
