think my pdr509 has a generic two pin power cord. I unplugged the cord from the unit.

CD recorder - doesn't matter electrically which way you plug it in.
But, some say plug it in the way round that sounds best! 😉

For unbalanced power such as US and Canada, the orientation of the plug can make a difference in noise, etc.
Measure the AC potential between the chassis, and the wall socket safety ground, to check for a difference.
