Potentiometer Desigations/Codes

Hello there Folks.... Greetings from New Zealand..... I just wonder IF there is ANYONE out there that can clear this on up, once and for all !!!!!!!🙂🙂🙂
I have been using "TONE STACK" software from "DUNCANAMPS", really a wonderful download to use.... BUT I am as confused as the rest out there and a GOOGLE search just seemed to comfirm the confusion....
In their software... When using, let's say the 'JAMES' tonestack simulator,... one has the choice of different 'Pots' .... Linear, Log A and Log B ..... The default is Log B.....
OK, now I know 'Linear' as 50% resistance at 50% mechanical rotation and 'Log' is normally about 10% resistance at 50% mechanical rotation.... So far so good !!!!!!
NOW.... What is with this "LOG A and B ". There seems to be as many answers as those that ask the question ???? Just to add to the confusion.... There is a USA designation, a European designation and then on top of that all... OLD and NEW codes/desinations. Some say that A is for Audio and B is for Linear ?????? Others exactly the opposite ?????
Wonderful to play around with this great piece software, just need some clarity and as far as I can see, I am not alone....
Many thanks for a great forum, just so many that are willing help... very much appreciated.....
Keep well, best to all....
Keith
When changing the 'type' of pot, the results are ALL different, 'linear' is not either A nor B ??????

Hello there ALL. thanks a stack for the reply, just a little clearer, .... So now I just have to find out just what the 'off the shelf' pots are at the retailer...... I am still confused.... Some say 'Log A' is for 'Audio' taper..... But by your suggestion 'log A' could be 'Log Anti' .... maybe ????? smile, smile, smile...
OK then, has anyone else any suggestions to clear this one up ?????
Best to All....
