Hello!

This is a group buy for Mark Johnson's VRDN boards, which work particularly well with Wayne's BA 2018.

Please add a comment in this discussion and you will be added to the list.

Thank you!

bhjazz

DETAILS:

The VRDN discussion is here: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/...l-ckts-11v-to-20v-1-5a-with-de-noiser.355883/

The boards:
  • Will be made using Mark's zip file named TZPTR7_A_VRDN_regulator_rev_A.zip
  • Will be produced in blue
  • Will be made by JLCPCB in China
The group buy:
  • Will be for boards only
  • Will not include parts, instructions or warranty
Once the full order is received by me, they will be mailed/shipped to members from the Seattle, Wa. area.

Regarding international shipping:
  • I will attempt to send invoices through Paypal.
  • If your country collects VAT taxes it will not be part of my invoice.
  • As other group buys indicate: if you receive a bill for VAT into your country it is your responsibility to navigate this and pay it yourself.
Paypal:
  • When you receive the Paypal invoice PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR SHIPPING ADDRESS. It is your responsibility to ensure it is correct and no refunds will be sent if your order is shipped to an incorrect address.

If there are any folks in the EU who would like to coordinate with me or kannan, please let me know. Scott (SRMcGee) has pointed out that there may be some good cost savings in having a batch of boards set directly there and distributed instead of having them sent to the US and mailed out to the EU. Just a thought. 🙂

Anyone have any idea about current parts availability for these boards now? Things were pretty normal in July of 2020, until all kinds of parts had long lead times over the past 2.5 yrs. Is there a current BoM or link to a public one on Mouser?

Now that I see rikiheck posting, I am reminded that the VRDN might also work with a B1. I may have to buy extra boards now...

We are currently at ~10 to 12 boards. I took a quick look at JLCPCB and the first price break happens after 10 boards, so this is good.

I'll give this "possible GB" thread some time to cook, say, a week or two. After that I will create a true group buy thread and we can go from there. I talked with kannan earlier today and he is unsure if he will have the time to work on this, so I believe the project will be mine. 😵 I will do my best!

... inclination to redesign using SMT parts? I guess there's got to be the interest to make it worthwhile.

Please feel free to redesign the board using SMT parts! Be sure to give the new PCB a brand new name, to avoid confusion between the two.

The new board will be a different physical size, its mounting holes will be placed differently, and it will undoubtedly have different performance characteristics. { For example, it's not likely that your max output current will turn out to be exactly 1.5 amperes. } So the two boards won't be interchangeable, and you want the two board-names to suggest that.
