Might be OK in a Nak cassette deck... but on a car it's a nightmare... 1994 Alfa 164.

Almost finished the complete restoration (and restyling) of my good old Thorens TD 125 Mk1
I've also changed the arm from the original TP14 to a SME 3009S imp.
This is what I came from...
...This is what I have now
These are few passages during the job

Here's my tweaked to the hill SL1200MK2. Its not much to look at, but definitely holds a candle to most 4 digit turntables.
Some of the things I did on this was -
Magnesium arm with ceramic bearings, Cardas wiring, KAB fluid dampening, isolated earth, fully balanced wiring with internal copper shielding, AT-OC9/II MC, custom Jensen SUT
Revised, filtered and balanced output driver current, delrin/TF thrust bearing, dynamic height tracking adjustment using magnetic field coil bearing, minimized flux leakage from drive coils, double redundant power supply source, shielded platter
This is the only TT I've owned which can be played without feedback, mistracking or rumble, even at ridiculously high SPLs. I used to own several Rega, Thorens, Kuzma and other higher end TTs, but this 1200 is the one I chose to live with long term, as it performs consistently and with low maintenance. The direct drive motor always runs perfectly with insanely low W/F. There's no measureable so called "cogging" in the motor, as it falls way beneath the rumble spec under 300 hz @ - 85 dB. Bearing friction fully masks this.
The power is from an external SMPS operating at 100 khz, fully shielded but i have the option of running it straight from the mains.
This is by.far the quietest TT I've ever owned in terms of drive performance and dynamic range. Some people turn their nose up at it because its DD, but it doesn't sound like it in any way other than essentially just letting the record itself come through without contamination.
