Personally I think @Fonebones is in the lead... there really isn't much that can match toasted selenium.
It is interesting to note that if a resistor overheats it's value will change to about 110 ohms. Brown Brown Brown.
I like the cute little flame you get from 10 ohms, 1/4 watt on a 12 volt supply. Then it becomes a zero mho resistor (one big black band, open circuit).

Yes, it's a Morris Marina (coupe, no less). Next to a Minor (another shed).
Yes, it's rally-prepped. Yes, it's got a 1300 under the bonnet -no doubt helping with the chronic understeer when the 1800 was installed and marketing gets the tyre pressures wrong right before the reviewers step into what everybody could tell was a parts-bin special, nailed together in a desperate attempt to come up with something to take on the Cortina for what budget they could find from down the back of the dreylon sofa and a quick whip-round in the staff canteen when the shop stewards weren't looking. It's hard to think of anything more wrong.
Astoundingly they actually got near the front of a few, presumably when the others entries had accidentally driven off a cliff.
